Application of liquid membrane system to main roof and M & E plant areas

inspection with restricted access to work area

Client

Claridge Hotel Limited, London

Project Details

Water ingress was occurring through the existing asphalt roof into bedrooms. The roof surface was only about 5% visible as a considerable amount of mechanical & electrical equipment was located on the roof. Access to the roof areas and the plant support framework was therefore very difficult.

Product Selection:

The work was to be undertaken during the autumn and winter periods and with areas of water the product selection was Belzona 3131 WG Membrane. The ease of application of this product in very difficult circumstances, together with its resistance to ‘wash-outs’ during application was the primary selection criteria.

Selected areas of the roof had water ponding on the surface; this was rectified to reduce slippage to walkways for Health & Safety reasons, prior to applying the membrane. Around the light well handrail posts Belzona 4411 Magma Build was applied to form suitable fillets over bolt heads.

Interesting points:

This was a very difficult access contract as the following images indicate. Access to some areas was only achievable through line harness methods. We feel it necessary to record the diligence and dexterity of our employees in undertaking this contract.
