Provision of chemical coating to 5 new concrete bunds

Client
Costain plc / Thames Water Authority
Project Details
The application of a suitable coating to concrete bunds for new chemical storage tanks containing high concentrate Phosphoric acid.
Product Selection
Due to high levels of acid concentration, the product proposed by the Belzona consultants, and accepted by Thames Water was the newly available Belzona 4341 Inorganicic Acid Coating. This product was designed for these difficult applications. Around the base plates and support framework within the bund Belzona 4411 Magma Build was applied to form suitable fillets over bolt heads, sharp angles etc. The new concrete was prepared using closed circuit vacuum blast methods to remove surface laitance.
Interesting points
As this was the first large application using this new product, techniques were developed by BCL, in association with Belzona R & D department, to improve the application methods and techniques.
